SAHRC postpones hearings into KZN water woes

4 July 2022

Hearings into the lack of access to water in KwaZulu-Natal by the South African Human Rights Commission were supposed to start on Monday.

The inquiry was meant to sit for the next eleven days in the province.

However, the commission says it's had to postpone the inquiry due to challenges involving scheduling as it seeks to hear a range of stakeholders, some of whom are no longer able to attend during the scheduled dates.

Commission spokesperson Wisani Baloyi says rescheduling the hearing has been prioritised in order to commence at the earliest possible time in the near future.

"Given the historic challenges around access to water in many parts of the province the commission will continue with its ongoing efforts to intervene, with a view of securing interim dates while new hearing dates are scheduled."
