Commissioner Titus’ presentation will speak to the work of the SAHRC Portfolio on the Prevention of Torture and Human Rights, and Law Enforcement.
Commissioner Titus’ presentation will address the report and findings of the National Investigative Hearing on the Safety and Security Challenges in Farming Communities, which was convened by the Commission in 2014. The SAHRC released the report on the hearings in 2015.
Additionally, Commissioner Titus will speak to Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the SAHRC and the South African Police Services (SAPS).
Commission Titus will also make a presentation on the deliberations from the Section 11 Committee convened by the Commission on the Prevention of Torture in South Africa.
In conducting its work, the Commission relies on the advice and recommendations of Section 11 Committees, established in terms of section 11 of the SAHRC Act, to advise the Commission on matters related to its work.
The Section 11 Committee on the Prevention of Torture in South Africa convened by the Human Rights Commission is an advisory board comprised of experts from different disciplines and institutions, from civil society, SAPS, the Department of Correctional Services, and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
