Media Advisory: The SAHRC holds stakeholder engagement on migration trends and issues affecting migrants in the Northern Cape Province

Attention: Editors and Reporters
Friday, 31 January 2025

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC/the Commission) Northern Cape Provincial Office will conduct a stakeholder engagement focused on migration trends and issues affecting migrants in the Northern Cape Province.

This event aims to address the key challenges faced by migrants and refugees in the region while promoting dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders. Migration plays an important role in shaping the socio-economic and cultural landscape of a society. While it offers opportunities, such as enriching the labour market, it also brings challenges, including resource pressures, xenophobia, and barriers to accessing essential services like healthcare, education, and social protection.

The stakeholder engagement will bring together various stakeholders to discuss solutions for effective migration governance and the protection of human rights. Commissioner Aseza Gungubele, who is responsible for Human Settlements, Migration and Climate Justice at the Commission, will lead the proceedings. The stakeholder engagement is scheduled to take place as follows:

  • Date : Monday, 03 February 2025
  • Time : 09:00 AM to 15:00 PM
  • Venue : Garden Court Kimberley (120 Du Toitspan Road), Kimberley

Members of the media are encouraged to attend and cover this engagement.
