Commissioner Gungubele’s provincial visit to the Free State aims to promote rights of vulnerable communities with a particular focus on matters relating to human settlement and migration. As part of the visit, Commissioner Gungubele, will be leading monitoring activities including in informal settlements, Maseru Border post, and police stations detaining undocumented migrants within the province. The programme will kickstart at Bainsvlei Police station on Monday, 09 December 2024, and followed by inspections at the Mountainview and Phomolong informal settlements in Bloemfontein.
The provincial assessment and monitoring activities are aligned to the realisation of the rights to environment, housing as well as Health care, food, water and social security as enshrined in the Constitution. In addition to these activities, the team headed by Commissioner Gungubele will be engaging with the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality and the Maseru Border Management Officials.
These engagements are aimed at identifying areas that need the Commission’s immediate intervention with regards to the lives of the most vulnerable groups in society. It further aims to strengthen collaboration with relevant government stakeholders to address human rights violations.
