Media Advisory: SAHRC hosts Child Rights Activations

Attention Editors and Reporters
Friday, 15 November 2024

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) Child Rights Unit (CRU) will be hosting activations on children’s rights across various provinces in South Africa. The activations aim to educate children from various socio-economic backgrounds on their rights and responsibilities.

This platform will also stimulate child participation – in line with the constitutional mandate of the SAHRC to promote, protect and monitor the rights of children, and will facilitate the appointment of new Child Rights Ambassadors, as some of the existing CRAs have transitioned to the age of 18.

Following three (3) successful Activations for children with disabilities in Gauteng, Free State and Mpumalanga, on the 26th of October 2024 and 9th of November 2024, the next Activations are set to take place in the following provinces as per the below schedule:

  • Western Cape : Saturday, 16 November 2024
  • Eastern Cape  : Saturday, 23 November 2024
  • Northern Cape: Saturday, 7 December 2024
  • North West     : Saturday, 14 December 2024

The CRU, under the leadership of Commissioner Khwinana, values the voices and participation of young people. It is hoped that these Activations would continue to advance the work of the SAHRC to promote children’s rights in South Africa.
