Media Advisory: Launch of the RDP report and community engagements on the report in the North West Province

Attention: Editors and Reporters
Tuesday, 12 November 2024

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC/the Commission) North West Provincial Office (NWPO) is set to launch its investigative report on the longstanding issue of incomplete and inadequate Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) houses in the North West province. This investigation follows multiple complaints dating back to 2021, underscores a systemic issue affecting housing projects across the province.

The systemic nature of the complaints prompted the Commission to initiate a formal inquiry, which was held in May and August 2023. The investigative inquiry uncovered significant, province-wide challenges in the delivery of RDP houses, impacting all municipalities across the North West. During the inquiry, the Commission also identified inconsistencies and data discrepancies from stakeholders, pointing to a lack of coordination in managing these housing projects.
