Media Advisory: SAHRC to meet with the Ugu District Council and Civil Society regarding the state of human rights in the region

Following the release of its KwaZulu Natal Water Inquiry Report in September 2023, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/the Commission), is visiting District Municipalities on a programme to monitor progress on the implementation of its recommendations, and to assess the state of human rights within the said region in KwaZulu Natala (KZN) Province.

The Commission has met with the uGu District Council and will be meeting with civil society. The Commission will also conduct site visit across the local municipalities in the district. The Commission calls on NGOs/ Civil Society Organisation in the uGu District Municipality to engage with the Commission in detailing the state of human rights in the district and KZN at large. The civil society stakeholder meetings will seek to draw on the activism and social action of local civil society collaborations to develop community-based solutions on human rights challenges facing the district.
