Attention: Editors and Reporters
Friday, 6 September 2024

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (the Commission) North West Provincial Office (NWPO) will co-host the Provincial rounds of the National Schools’ Moot Court Programme (NSMCP), in partnership  with the Department of Basic Education (DBE), Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJ&CD), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and the North West University (NWU).

In terms of section 184(2)(d) of the Constitution, the Commission is mandated to educate the public about human rights. NSMCP serves as a platform through which the Commission provide human rights education to hundreds of learners from various schools. The NSMCP exposes the learners to the Constitution, the rights in the Bill of Rights, the limitation of the rights, court processes, legal research and drafting, as well as trial advocacy. Furthermore, the NSMCP provides the participating learners an opportunity to present both their written and oral arguments in a courtroom before judicial officers.

The provincial oral round is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the learners and to empower both learners and educators to effectively participate in the NSMCP.

The Provincial Oral round is scheduled to take place as follows:

  • Date :   Saturday, 7 September 2024
  • Venue:   Molopo Magistrate Court – Mahikeng
  • Time :   08:00 – 14:00
