Media Advisory: SAHRC Mpumalanga Provincial Office to commemorate National Women’s Day

Attention: Editors and Reporters

06 September 2024
________________________________________________________________
The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) will be commemorating National Women’s Day, focusing on the rights of women to equality and healthcare services, including sexual and reproductive healthcare as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (the Constitution).

The commemoration aims to create a platform for women to have a dialogue about challenges affecting them, including safety and access to healthcare services among others. Section 27 of the Constitution states that: “Everyone has the right to have access to healthcare services, including reproductive health care.”

This right entitles women to make decisions pertaining to their bodies as part of the fundamental rights to equality and dignity. In addition, the session envisages to empower women, enhance human rights awareness, and increase access and visibility of the Commission.

The commemoration is scheduled to take place as follows:

  • Date : Saturday, 07 September 2024
  • Venue : Roeperfontein Church, Kriel.
  • Time : 09h00 – 14h00
