Media Advisory: SAHRC Eastern Cape Provincial Office to co-host the MOOT Court Programme Provincial Oral rounds

Attention: Editors and Reporters
Friday, 06 September 2024

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/the Commission) in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDOE) and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJ&CD), will host the provincial rounds of the National Schools Moot Court Programme (NSMCP) on 06-08 September 2024. Ten schools will compete in the provincial oral rounds, with the goal of selecting four schools to represent the Eastern Cape Province in the forthcoming national competition, which will take place later this year at the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) in Gauteng.

The NSMCP challenges learners to engage with a hypothetical legal case that raises various human rights issues. Participants are required to argue opposing perspectives on the case, drawing on national, regional, and international legal frameworks, as well as relevant foreign legal instruments. This is an important step in fostering a culture of human rights, which is crucial for creating long-term social change and protecting human rights. The NSMCP aligns with the Commission’s Constitutional mandate to promote and provide education on human rights.

The provincial rounds will take place as follows
