Media Advisory: The SAHRC Northern Cape Provincial Office to conduct a strategic stakeholder engagement with the Sol Plaatjie University

The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) in the Northern Cape Province will be conducting a strategic stakeholder engagement with the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) to reflect and deliberate on pertinent human rights issues within the university. In addition, the stakeholder engagement will explore collaborative approaches to enhance the observance of human rights on the SPU campus.

The strategic stakeholder engagement is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date    : Friday, 16 August 2024

Time   : 09:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Venue : Garden Court Kimberley (120 Du Toitspan Road), Kimberley.


The strategic stakeholder engagement seeks to:

  • Assess the current state of human rights awareness and observance within SPU.
  • Identify and address key human rights challenges faced by students, staff, and the university.
  • Discuss ways of promoting a culture of inclusivity, equality, and respect for human rights.
  • Review and enhance the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Commission and the SPU to better address evolving challenges and reinforce our commitment to human rights.

The strategic stakeholder engagement will involve representatives from the:

 

  • University management
  • Academic staff
  • Administrative and support staff
  • Student leadership bodies
