Media Advisory: SAHRC in Eastern Cape to hold a strategic stakeholder engagement with Walter Sisulu University

Attention: Editors and Reporters

15 August 2024

In a significant step towards enhancing the realization, promotion and protection of human rights in the Eastern Cape and across South Africa, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) in the Eastern Cape signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Walter Sisulu University (WSU) in 2022.

While the institutions have already collaborated on initiatives, revisiting, and refining these joint efforts could significantly enhance their collective impact on upholding human rights in the province. As thus, the SAHRC and WSU will hold a strategic stakeholder engagement to review these collaborative efforts as outlined in the MOU. The MOU outlines the university's commitment to providing technical support to the Commission's work and to promoting human rights awareness. This collaboration will not only strengthen the Commission's efforts but also enhance the capacity of all involved parties in effectively implementing Chapter 2 of the Constitution. Moreover, it will foster a culture of human rights among students and the Institution, contributing to the national agenda of upholding human rights.

The strategic stakeholder engagement is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date:   15 August 2024

Venue: Microsoft Teams

Time:   10h00-12h00

Ends
