Deputy Minister Bogopane-Zulu will receive the report on behalf of government. The Commission expects the Deputy-Minister to further engage Parliament and ensure that the Commission’s recommendations as contained in the report are implemented.
The South African Government has over the years made commendable and substantial progress in complying with the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD), particularly with regards to the provision of education for persons with disabilities, employment and recreation.
Despite such achievements, there are numerous challenges, which continue to deprive persons with disabilities from attaining and accessing rights conferred by the Convention and given legal effect in certain laws.
The Equality report has a section that interrogates challenges that people living with disabilities continue to face in their realisation of the right to equality.
